SO, for the past three years Julia Bobbin has hosted a "Mad Men Dress Challenge," where a bunch of sewists/ Mad Men enthusiasts create their own Joan/ Betty/ Peggy dresses. I wanted to participate last year, and this dress worn by Jane, before she married Roger, when she was just Don's secretary would have been my inspiration.
I liked the simple, classic silhouette and most of all the bright squares along the side. I thought the squares were really interesting, especially with the recent rebirth of the neon trend.
These other looks, from more recent episodes were also in the running for me.
This super cool swimsuit cover-up tunic thingee worn by Megan last season.
And this awesome chevron coat, also worn by Megz Draper. Who doesn't love chevron?
ANYWAY, I decided to try the Jane dress. I thought it would be great for some events I have coming up. Here's how it came out. It's mostly done, but I'm calling it a work in progress because I think I still have some fiddling to do with the squares, I also couldn't find colors as bright as I wanted.

Missoni Madness at Target!
Has anyone tried to log onto the Target website today? Well don't waste your time because you won't get through thanks to today's release of the Missoni for Target line.
Unless you've been hiding under a rock somewhere, you must have seen or heard something about the timeless Italian designer slumming it at Target in the form of women's wear, men's, little girls, shoes, and even housewares. I have to admit, I was eagerly awaiting the arrivals myself, planning a stop by my local store after dropping off my son at preschool. What I DID NOT expect was for the line to be pretty much sold out by 8:30 this morning when I strolled in. What I did find however, were a few cool pieces, a lot of "eh," pieces, and women racing around the store with their carts literally overflowing with the famous colorful zig-zags.
I tried on a bunch of stuff, here's what I purchased:

W.W.V.B.D.?
What would Victoria Beckham do? Hmmmm...
I found myself asking this question one day a few months back when I was trying to drop the last few pounds of baby weight I had put on with my second child. So naturally, I began Googling, trying to figure out what exactly does and doesn't Victoria Beckham eat, drink, etc. to keep herself so thin. After all, she now has had four children, while I have only had two, and looks amazing ( I look less than amazing, but that is neither here nor there). I didn't find much. Fish, broccoli, I guess once she even said she eats a big bowl of cereal every morning. Nothing terribly helpful. But I did come to a realization. That in all of life, including dieting, there are choices involved, and that sometimes it might help to look at things from someone else's point of view. That's where W.W.V.B.D.? came from. I thought, "Before I eat anything, I will simply ask myself, 'What would Victoria Beckham do?'" and I did, and I lost 8 pounds! Bringing me back to my pre-first-baby weight after a couple of months. It was great. Since then though, I have stagnated, not lost any more and kind of forgot all about Victoria Beckham.
So consider this blog my way of restarting W.W.V.B.D.? I have lost all the weight, but I am still not actually the same size, so I would like to lose a bit more, just to look better in clothes and be healthier. And I am not a V.B. stalker of any sort! I just think she's cool and I simply wish to emulate her a bit. I love that she's a mom to boys, like myself, into fashion, like myself, and a career woman, but I don't actually want to be THAT thin!
Here she is recently with new baby Harper!
